About

hotelkinds is a small, independent index. It groups hotels by the kind of stay they offer rather than by city, price or star rating.

There are four kinds here: art hotels, capsule hotels, casino hotels and ice hotels. They have little in common, and that is the point. Someone curious about sleeping in a pod has different questions from someone choosing between a gallery-like boutique and a hotel carved out of a frozen river.

What an entry contains

Each hotel gets a short piece of prose: where it is, what makes it a clear example of its category, and what a stay there is actually like. A few plain labels sit underneath. There are no scores, no rankings and no sponsored placements.

What we leave out

Prices, availability and room rates change too often to print responsibly, so we don't. Nor do we take bookings or pass on reservations. For those, go to the hotel directly.

Casino hotels

The casino hotels listed here are described as hotels first. Their gaming floors are mentioned as one feature of a larger property, alongside the rooms, restaurants and venues that most guests actually use.

Corrections

Hotels renovate, rename and occasionally close. If something on the site is out of date, the contact page explains how to tell us.
